QSL launches PL/SQL migration product
11 July 2003, Oxford, UK.
Quintessence Systems Limited today announced the launch of its in2j PL/SQL software which automatically migrates entire PL/SQL libraries (comprising procedures, functions and packages) into the Java language. This follows 4 years of technical development and live testing against actual applications conducted at the firm's Oxford development centre.
"Our PL/SQL in2j software offers organisations an important exit route from legacy code and architectures", said QSL technical director Don Smith. "By migrating into Java our customers can 'future-proof' their legacy applications since there is a broad pool of skilled Java software engineers capable of maintaining, upgrading and extending the migrated software, something that is no longer the case with PL/SQL."
During the development phase the in2j software was initially used to migrate 30,000 lines of PL/SQL for Sydney-based iLaunch, a producer of web-based management tools. Last month (June 2003) QSL migrated a further 50,000 lines of PL/SQL for Brazil-based Patmosit, a leading vendor of airline management systems.
"Now that we have cracked the PL/SQL challenge we will be moving on to Oracle Forms", said Smith. "Our market information is that there are many disgruntled Forms users out there who will leap at the chance to convert to Java and break free of proprietary software platforms."
