in2j Forms beta announced
15 November 2005, Oxford, UK.
Quintessence Systems Limited today announced that its in2j Forms product has reached its 'beta' development stage. in2j Forms is a unique software product which automatically migrates entire Oracle forms systems into the Java language. After three years in development at QSL's Oxford, UK, headquarters, in2j Forms has passed a series of stringent benchmarks designed to test its reliability and accuracy.
"It's a wonderful moment", commented QSL Technical Director Don Smith. "The migrated Java system is effectively indistinguishable from the original Forms application. You can run the two systems side by side and the only clue as to which is which is that the migrated Java typically runs faster on comparable hardware."
"Users can just carry on using the system exactly as before, but for the the IT staff everything is very different. It's so much easier to maintain, develop and upgrade a Java system - for a start you can recruit the staff. And then you save on software licence fees."
Mr Smith said that in2j Forms would now be "put through its paces" migrating large and complex Forms applications. "We are bound to have a few glitches along the way", he said. "Forms is full of undocumented features and every Forms developer has their ways of working around Forms oddities of various kinds. But every time a problem comes up and we fix it, it is fixed for every future migration we carry out. From now on it can only get better and better."
He added that QSL was negotiating with several business and scientific organisations who had come forward offering their Forms systems for migration.
